荒木悠が新作をボルボ スタジオ 青山で展示！ 美術手帖×VOLVO ART PROJECT 第3弾

「美術手帖×VOLVO ART PROJECT」の第 3 弾として、アーティスト・荒木悠による作品展示が、3月9日〜24日、ボルボ スタジオ 青山で開催された。

今回展示されたのは、荒木の新作《LOST HIGHWAY (Sweded)》。デヴィット・リンチ監督の『Lost High way』(1997)を「Sweded」風にリメイクした映像作品だ。「Sweded」とはミシェル・ゴンドリー監督の映画『Be Kind Rewind(邦題:僕らのミライへ逆回転)』(2008)という映画にある動詞の過去形で、「手近に利用できるものを使ってすべて手作りでリメイクす ること」ということを意味する造語だ。海外の映画ファンの間では「スター・ウォーズ」や「ジュラシック・パーク」などの往年の名作を次々と低予算で「Sweded」し、インターネット上に公開していくことで、国際的なムーブメントになった。 ボルボ スタジオ 青山のスウェーデンの自動車メーカーならではの北欧的なデザイン空間にインスパイアを受けた荒木は、今作にて、リンチによるオリジナルのミステリアスな世界観を異化した映像表現と既存のイメージをずらし、拡張することを試みた。

3月9日にはオープニングイベントとして、荒木の《LOST HIGHWAY (Sweded)》に出演する俳優・映像作家の高山玲子による「体メンテナンス教室」を開催。高山はかねてより、様々な舞台上で経験し学んできた身体性とストレッチを複合し、「誰でも簡単にでき、終わると元気になる魔法のような体操教室」を主催してきた。イベント当日は、高山と参加者が「体操」を媒介にした双方向のコミュニケーションを通じて、日頃ないがしろにされがちな自らの身体に意識をめぐらす時間を現出させた。また、体操後は、「フィーカ(スウェーデンのティー文化)」を提供してき た北欧に通じる新たなリラックスの空間を提供した。

また、本企画は、当初17日までの開催期間を予定していたが、多くの来店客を動員し、好評につき24日までの会期延長をするに至った。

あらき・ゆう｜1985 年山形県生まれ。2010年東京藝術大学大学院映像研究科メディア映像専攻修士課程修了。近年の展示に、 「双殻綱:第一幕 | Bivalvia Act: I」(2017 年、無人島プロダクション)、「複製神殿 | Temple of the Templet」(2016 年、横浜美術館アートギャラリー1 )。 主なグループ展に「Invisible Cities」(2017 年、ダラス・コンテンポラリー)、「The Way Things Do」(2017 年、ジョアン・ミロ財団)、「クロニ クル、クロニクル!」(2016-2017 年、CCO 大阪)、「岡山芸術交流」(2016 年、旧後楽館天神校舎跡 地)など。 2018 年には、第 47 回ロッテルダム国際映画祭に「利未記異聞 WRONG REVISION」(2016 年)及びダニエル・ジャコビーと共同監督を務めた「Mountain Plain Mountain」(2018 年)の 2 作品か? 正式招待され、「Mountain Plain Mountain」はタイガーアワードを受賞。

The item on display this time is Araki’s new work <>. This film is a remake of ‘Lost Highway’ (1997), directed by David Lynch, in the style of “Swedded”. “Swedded” is a term coined to mean “the act of remaking something by hand” in the past tense of a verb in Michelle Gondry’s movie ‘Be Kind Rewind (Japanese title: Reversal to Our Mirai)’ (2008). Among overseas movie fans, old masterpieces such as “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park” were <> one after another with a low budget and released on the Internet, which has become an international movement. Inspired by the Scandinavian design space of a Swedish automaker in Volvo Studios Aoyama, Araki tried to shift and expand the existing image and the visual expression that was different from Lynch’s original mysterious world view in this film.

The opening event, “body maintenance class” was held on March 9. Reiko Takayama, who is an actor and filmmaker and appears in Araki’s <>. Takayama has long hosted the “A magical gymnastics class that anyone can do easily and become energetic when it is over.” combining physical and stretching skills he has learned on stage. On the day of the event, Takayama and the participants communicated with each other through the “gymnastics” and showed their time to be conscious of their bodies, which are often neglected. After the exercise, they provided a new space for relaxation which was connected to Northern Europe, which had provided “Feeka (Swedish tea culture)”.

In addition, this project was originally scheduled to be held until the 17th, but it was extended to the 24th due to its popularity with many customers.

Araki Yu | Born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1985. In 2010, he completed his master’s course at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts. Recent exhibitions are “Bivalvia Act: I” (2017: Mujinjima Productions) and “Temple of the Templet” (2016, Yokohama Art Museum Art Gallery 1). Major group exhibitions are “Invisible Cities” (2017: Dallas contemporary), “The Way Things Do” (2017 Joanne Miro Foundation), “Chronicle. Chronicle!” (2016 -2017, CCO Osaka), “Bivalvia Act: I” (2017: Mujinjima Productions), etc. Two films in 2018, “Temple of the Templet” (2016, Yokohama Art Museum Art Gallery 1) at the 47 Rotterdam International Film Festival and “Invisible Cities” (2017: Dallas contemporary), which he co-directed with Daniel Jacoby? Takayama Reiko | Born in Kyoto, an actor/filmmaker/seamstress/gymnast, appears as an actor in many company films, while also producing films and staging by himself. Also, there are gymnastics classes held in various places in Tokyo that are popular for making everyone feel refreshed after finishing.
